When we set out our , we recognized that the world around us changes rapidly, and that our ambitions need to evolve in response. In the Institutional Plan 2026-2030, we reaffirm our commitment to lead the change for a better world: educating responsible engineers, empowering academics and professionals, advancing global scientific knowledge, and driving impactful, sustainable innovation in the Brainport ecosystem and beyond.
We want to lead the change together through our education, research and impact.
We aim for technology leadership by delivering research excellence at the European level. In doing so, we seek to take a leading role in four priority domains: energy; health; digital and semiconductor technologies; and advanced materials. At the same time, we educate responsible engineers to become future leaders in sustainability transitions, based on excellent research in these priority domains.
To realize these ambitions, we are committed to:
- developing technology leadership in a European context in the four priority areas;
- educating responsible engineers in close interaction with Brainport;
- making education more flexible, so that students are able to follow their own study path;
- investing in infrastructure and capabilities in the four priority areas;
- embracing artificial intelligence in education, research, valorization and business operations;
- and developing an Open Science approach with extra attention for knowledge security.
OUR PRIORITY DOMAINS
We will prioritize the following domains in research, education, and valorization:
- Energy, Health,
- Digital & Semiconductor technologies
- Advanced Materials.
In these domains we are optimally prepared to take a leading role on the European level. Based on our current strengths, we shape our research landscape towards these priority domains.
ACHIEVED IN 2020-2025 – Investments for excellent and mission-driven research
We have established four research institutes that bridge research programs over our departments and involve partners in the Brainport area and beyond in our research. With an initial investment of €60 million, these institutes have proven to be catalysts for participation in (inter)national mission-driven research programs. We participate in 29 out of 50 Growth Fund projects and is one of the top 15 universities in participation in the European framework program Horizon Europe. In addition, we have devoted large investments in research infrastructure to enable excellent research, including the SPIKE-1 supercomputer and a new cleanroom, which will become operational from 2028 onwards.
ACHIEVED IN 2020-2025 – Vision on education, Redesign Bachelor College and digitization
In 2023, we adopted a new vision for education, and implemented the revised Bachelor College to provide more personalized learning paths and professional development for students. The elective space and thematic learning areas, such as AI and Sustainability, will be further developed. The BOOST program, launched in 2020, has strengthened the digitization of education, and its successor, DRIVE, will focus in particular on flexible and adaptable learning experiences.
