What does this mean for students?

To help maintain a productive study atmosphere, the library now operates under three simple principles:

• Study in silence.
• Drinks are allowed, but food is not.
• Treat fellow students, staff, and the library environment with respect.

These guidelines help ensure that everyone can enjoy a pleasant and distraction-free place to study.

New library zoning

The previous three-zone system has been simplified into two zones:

1. Library (Floors 0 and -1). These areas are designated for silent study only. Students are expected to work quietly and avoid conversations.
2. Study Cabins (Floor 0). Speaking is permitted in the study cabins, provided conversations are kept at a normal volume and do not disturb others.

Updated house rules

Alongside the new zoning and silence policy, the University Library has updated its house rules. Library staff will actively help maintain the study environment by addressing behaviour that does not comply with the rules.

Students who repeatedly fail to follow the guidelines may face additional measures, such as a temporary suspension of library access. In serious or recurring cases, the relevant faculty may be informed and asked to record the incident in the student's file.
