New Open Access publishing deal with ACS
13 juli 2026
Dutch universities have reached a new Read & Publish agreement with the American Chemical Society (ACS), effective immediately. This consortium deal allows researchers to publish their work Open Access (OA) at no additional cost to the author, ensuring immediate availability under a Creative Commons CC BY license.
Key Details of the Agreement
- Annual APC allocation: The agreement provides a total of 542 Article Processing Charges (APCs) per year nationally, including 2026, 2027, and 2028 calendar years.
- Rollover for 2026 APCs: Since the agreement is being implemented mid-2026, a special provision allows any unused tokens from 2026 to be used for articles accepted throughout the remainder of the contract duration (2027 and 2028).
- No 2026 refunds: Researchers who have already paid an APC for an article accepted earlier this year will not receive a refund.
- Journal eligibility: The publishing title list remains consistent with the previous agreement. This includes all ACS hybrid journals, but excludes eBooks, additions, corrections, and editorials, this also means that ACS Omega remains excluded from the deal.
