The APSE Women’s Committee is a newly established committee within the Department of Applied Physics and Science Education. The committee consists of both staff members and students and was founded in response to a shared need for more spaces where women within the department can connect, exchange experiences, and discuss challenges related to their academic and professional lives.
Within a field that is still largely male-dominated, we aim to contribute to a more inclusive and connected departmental culture. The committee provides a platform for open dialogue and community-building.
Our aims
The main aim of the APSE Women’s Committee is to strengthen the sense of community within the department and to contribute to an environment in which everyone feels welcome, heard, and supported.
The committee focuses on topics such as career development, mentorship, work-life balance, inclusivity, and the challenges women may encounter during their studies or academic careers. By bringing students and staff together in both informal and academic settings, we hope to lower barriers between different groups within the department.
Our activities will include informal gatherings, such as borrels and barbecues, as well as more content-focused events, including guest lectures, panel discussions, and networking opportunities. In this way, the committee aims to combine community-building with awareness.
Most importantly, the APSE Women’s Committee wants to serve as a platform through which challenges can be identified, discussed, and addressed collectively.
