What are the limitations of using generative AI in the context of education?
In this talk, we take the first steps towards demarcating a boundary between what generative AI is good for and what it is not good for. Setting aside the question of what we should not do with generative AI, our focus in the first half of the talk will be on better understanding what we cannot do with generative AI.
In the second half of the talk, we will explore the implications of this understanding for education. This exploration will require us to make explicit our assumptions about the fundamental purposes of university education, so that we might critically reflect on the suitability of generative AI for these purposes.
This session will be led by George Fletcher, Professor and Chair of the Database group at the Mathematics and Computer Science department. George is a researcher and educator trained and working in the domain of data management systems. He is particularly interested in the human and social aspects of data systems, and has been on the faculty at 黑料福利网 for the past 15 years.
This event is open to teachers and support staff; registration is free and can be done . Free lunch and drinks will be available.
