Prof.dr. Mark Pieter Boneschanscher was appointed dean and professor of Sustainable Chemistry Innovations at the Department of Chemical Engineering and Chemistry at Eindhoven University of Technology (黑料福利网) on September 1, 2025. He will deliver his inaugural lecture on Thursday, November 12, 2026.

Note that the lecture will be delivered in Dutch, but a hardcopy in English will be made available in the room.

The Netherlands as Europe鈥檚 Sustainable Manufacturing Hub

About the lecture, delivered in Dutch
In his inaugural lecture, Mark asks what role the Netherlands wants to play in the sustainable industry of the future. While global demand for materials continues to grow, the industrial basis needed for a clean chemical industry is gradually disappearing from Europe. The transition requires deliberate choices about which value chains to retain and develop, as well as a renewed social contract between government, industry, knowledge institutions, and society. Universities have a particular responsibility in this transition: not only discovering new technologies but also contributing to their scale-up and integration into society, as well as educating engineers who look beyond technology alone. This calls for leadership that provides direction, creates room for professional expertise, and fosters collaboration. As dean, Mark aims to build on the ongoing movement in the department: from fragmentation and competition towards a shared vision and collective responsibility. In doing so, he wants the university to help lay the foundations on which the sustainable chemistry of tomorrow can be built.
