Our mission
Our mission is to expand access to affordable prosthetic limbs in developing countries by designing high-quality, low-cost prosthetics that can be 3D printed locally, thereby increasing accessibility and reducing stigma.
Our challenge
Current prosthetics are expensive, difficult to manufacture and require specialist parts. Due to this, it is estimated that only 5-15% of people with amputations in developing countries have access to prosthetics. Companies are attempting to reduce this inequality by 3D printing prosthetics locally, but have not yet expanded their efforts to include transhumoral prosthetics.
Our solution
InReach aims to develop a natural-looking, functional prosthetic elbow joint that can be 3D printed in polypropylene. The design will be scalable to fit various limb sizes and feature a straightforward assembly process to minimise manufacturing errors.
Our team would like to gain experience in considering innovation from a business and entrepreneurship perspective. Through this, we also aim to develop our soft skills, such as pitching and networking.
