English proficiency requirements

To successfully participate in a ºÚÁϸ£ÀûÍø program, you must be proficient in English. ºÚÁϸ£ÀûÍø accepts the following English language proficiency test results:

(Test of English as a Foreign Language)

 

  • Minimum overall score: 90
  • Minimum score per section: 21
  • Only TOEFL internet-based test (iBT) is accepted
  • All scores must be from one test date
  • MyBest Scores is not accepted

IELTS (Academic version)

 

  • Minimum overall score: 6.5
  • Minimum score per section: 6.0
  • All scores must be from one test date
  • IELTS online test is not accepted
  • IELTS One Skill Retake is not accepted

University of Cambridge

 

  • C2 Proficiency (CPE): overall score 180, minimum of 169 per section, or
  • C1 Advanced Certificate (CAE): overall score 176, minimum of 169 per section
  • All scores must be from one test date

LanguageCert Academic

 

  • Minimum overall score: 70
  • Minimum score per section: 65
  • All scores must be from one test date
  • Online tests are not accepted

Pearson PTE Academic

 

  • Minimum overall score: 61
  • Minimum score per section: 46
  • All scores must be from one test date
  • Online tests are not accepted


Note: No other language tests are accepted. Test results must be no older than 2 years.

 

Submitting scores

It is mandatory to upload your official English language test score report in the online application form. Please note that it may take up to six weeks for some test centers to issue official results after you take the test. We strongly recommend scheduling and registering for your chosen test well in advance to ensure timely submission.
While exact timelines may vary, typical result release times are:

 

  • IELTS: 5–13 days
  • TOEFL: 4–8 days
  • Cambridge: 2–6 weeks
  • PTE Pearson: within 2 days
  • LanguageCert: around 7 days

Please check the official website of your test provider for the most accurate and up-to-date information. We must be able to verify your test results before the final application deadline. In addition to uploading your score report, we will verify your results using:

 

  • TRF number (IELTS)
  • Appointment number (TOEFL)
  • Verification number (Cambridge)
  • Score Report Code (PTE Pearson)
  • Candidate number (LanguageCert)

Exemptions from English language tests

You are exempt from submitting an English test if you meet one of the following criteria:

 

  • Completed Dutch pre-university education (VWO)
  • Hold an ASO diploma from Flanders
  • Hold an IB or EB diploma with English as the sole language of instruction

  • IB: If not fully in English, exemption is possible with English A HL with a minimum score of 5.
  • EB: If not fully in English, exemption is possible with English Language 1 or 2.
  • Completed the entire bachelor’s degree or the last 3 years of their High School in: Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, Malta, Barbados, UK and USA. (Note: Degrees from overseas branches of universities in these countries do not qualify)
  • Hold the nationality of one of above countries
  • Completed a 4-year HBO bachelor's degree in the Netherlands, with English as the sole language of instruction (demonstrated or indicated by the program).
  • Completed the entire high school education at an accredited USA high school located outside the USA.
  • Completed the full British curriculum (GCSE and A-levels) at an international/British school outside the United Kingdom.

No other exemptions are possible.

Dutch proficiency requirements

If you are applying for a Dutch-taught program at ºÚÁϸ£ÀûÍø and were not previously educated in Dutch at a Dutch VWO (pre-university education) or HBO (University of Higher Professional Education also called University of Applied Sciences), you must submit proof of Dutch proficiency.

Accepted tests:

 

  • Dutch State Examination NT2-II
  • Certificate of Dutch as a Foreign Language (CNaVT) - Level STRT or EDUP.

Dutch State Examination NT2-II:

 

  1. Apply via a recognized language institute (e.g. James Boswell Instituut or Tilburg University Language Centre)
  2. Register for the exam via DUO, the Dutch student registration office
  3. You may enroll for the ºÚÁϸ£ÀûÍø program, after passing the NT2-II exam if conditionally admitted

Certificate of Dutch as a Foreign Language (level STRT or EDUP)

 

  1. Register for an exam via the examiner who sends the registration forms to the CNaVT secretary until March, 15th
  2. Find exam partners on the CNaVT
  3. Exams are held in the first half of May ( )
  4. You may enroll for the ºÚÁϸ£ÀûÍø program after obtaining the certificate if conditionally admitted

Exemptions

 

  • You have Dutch nationality
  • Completed Dutch VWO or HBO education with Dutch as the sole language of instruction
  • Hold an ASO diploma from Flanders
  • Hold an International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma with Dutch B Higher Level (HL) or Dutch A Standard Level or Higher Level (SL/HL).
