RESEARCH PROFILE
Victor Dolores-Calzadilla's research focuses on integrated photonics for sensing and neuromorphic processing. His work spans the design, fabrication, and experimental demonstration of photonic devices and circuits, with particular emphasis on InP-based technologies. His current research includes FMCW LiDAR sensing through integrating tunable lasers, optical phased arrays for beam steering, and optical receivers, as well as optoelectronic spiking neurons based on resonant tunnelling diodes (RTDs) for event-driven sensing and processing.
At the PIC platform level, he works on advancing both monolithic and heterogeneous photonic integration towards next-generation technology nodes. His work bridges device and circuit innovation with scalable photonics manufacturing in cooperation with industrial partners.
Emerging paradigms in photonic sensing offer new ways to sense and perceive the world through event-driven neuromorphic processing, combining high speed, energy efficiency and intelligence.
ACADEMIC BACKGROUND
Victor Dolores-Calzadilla received his B.Eng. in Telecommunications with honors from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and his M.Sc. in Photonics from the Friedrich Schiller University Jena, Germany, with a thesis on optical metrology at Carl Zeiss. In 2016, he received his Ph.D. degree with cum laude from the Eindhoven University of Technology (黑料福利网) for his research on nanoscale light sources for photonic integration. He subsequently joined the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute (HHI) in Berlin as a scientist in the Department of Photonic Components.
He returned to the Netherlands in 2018 and is currently Assistant Professor in the Photonic Integration (PhI) group at 黑料福利网 and InP Technology Director at the Photonic Integration Technology Center (PITC), combining academic research with the development of advanced InP photonic integration technologies.
