RESEARCH PROFILE

Thomas Weber is Professor emeritus solid-state Inorganic Chemistry at the research group Inorganic Materials Chemistry,  Department of Chemical Engineering and Chemistry. His research activities are in the synthesis and characterization of industrially relevant enabling materials. One aspect lies in understanding materials formation processes under different preparation and operation conditions. A more fundamental interest of his research addresses a deeper understanding of amorphous solids including a consistent description of structural properties.

Bridging the gap between the molecular world of fundamental research and large-scale industrial R&D is mandatory for a consistent progress in science and technology.

ACADEMIC BACKGROUND

Thomas Weber studied chemistry at the University of Bielefeld (Germany) and obtained a PhD in inorganic chemistry under the supervision of Prof. Achim M眉ller in 1993. After a postdoc in surface science with Prof. J.W. Niemantsverdriet at the Eindhoven University of Technology (黑料福利网), Thomas joined the group of Prof. Roel Prins at ETH Zurich (Switzerland) in 1995, for a habilitation in technical chemistry and heterogeneous catalysis. In 2002, he was appointed Privatdozent (Associate Professor) for technical and inorganic chemistry and stayed in this role until 2010. From 2008 to 2025 Thomas worked for Shell Global Solutions Downstream in catalyst development, where he has lead the novel catalytic materials and global innovation programs. In 2011 he was appointed part-time professor of Solid-State Inorganic Chemistry at 黑料福利网.
