In 1992, Richard received a Master's degree in Computer Science at the Eindhoven University, followed by a PhD in June 2000.  After a few PostDoc positions at EESI and 黑料福利网, he started at a research and technical support position in the SAN research group of the Mathematics and Computer Science department at the Eindhoven University of Technology.  In that role, he was involved in several national and European research projects to provide technical support to PhD students and perform system integration of research results. In 2020, the SAN research group was renamed IRIS research cluster to reflect the shift in research focus.
