RESEARCH PROFILE
Odysseas Papapetrou is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Eindhoven University of Technology (黑料福利网). He joined 黑料福利网 in 2018, after studying and working in Cyprus, Germany, Greece, and Switzerland. He leads the Scalable Online Data Management (SODATA) group, whose research focuses on data-intensive systems. Modern applications鈥攆rom online services and scientific instruments to smart infrastructure and IoT鈥攇enerate data at volumes and speeds beyond the capabilities of traditional data management techniques, making timely analysis and decision-making challenging. His group develops methods and systems that enable complex analytics and machine learning to operate in near real time, often within milliseconds, and under strict computational and memory constraints. The group designs approximate algorithms and compact data structures (synopses) to efficiently summarize high-volume data streams and time series, and builds distributed algorithms that scale across hundreds of machines. This work enables applications ranging from sensor-network analytics to efficient and scalable machine-learning training.
ACADEMIC BACKGROUND
Odysseas Papapetrou got his BSc in Computer Science and an MSc in Advanced Information Technologies from the University of Cyprus. He then went on to do an MSc in Computer Science at the University of Saarland and Max Planck Institute (2005) and a PhD in Computer Science at the University of Hannover and L3S Research Center (2011). Then he started working as a researcher at SoftNet Lab, Technical University of Crete (2011-2015), and as an adjunct lecturer at the Open University of Cyprus (2012-2013). In 2016, Papapetrou moved to EPFL, Switzerland, where he worked as a Research and Teaching Associate, and later as an EPFL Marie Sk艂odowska-Curie Fellow. In 2018, Papapetrou joined Eindhoven University of Technology (黑料福利网) as Assistant Professor.
