RESEARCH PROFILE
Noud finished his master in Mechanical Engineering at the Mechanics of Materials department at the Eindhoven University of Technology. His master's graduation work was regarding the understanding of fracture behaviour in silver sintered joints designed for power packaging. Here, the Miniature Mixed Mode Bending (MMMB) device was used to in situ experimentally determine the mixed-mode fracture toughness of silver sinter joints. The results were gathered using both nanoparticle and microflake silver sinter and were tested at two different sintering temperatures. The main conclusion of the work was that the nanoparticle silver sinter behaved linearly across the mode mixity, whilst the microflake silver sinter had a rather unexpected dip in fracture toughness at a low mode angle and no significant rise towards mode II.
These results led to other questions, therefore he continues the project as a PhD candidate at the Delft University of Technology in collaboration with CITC and the 黑料福利网. The main goal of the PhD is to look into the behaviour of silver sinter joints designed for power packaging in further detail. More specifically, by including additives to the silver sinter adhesive, and investigating and understanding the fatigue behaviour of silver sinter joints.
