RESEARCH PROFILE

I am an urban economist and a lateral entrant to academia. In 2016, I came to the 黑料福利网 Built Environment to set up a research and education line in Urban Economics for Technological Innovation. The initiative has grown into a successful program, supported by multiple grants for both research and teaching. It includes new courses in Urban Economics, a team of junior researchers engaged in funded projects, and an extensive network of societal partners.

My research develops data-driven mathematical models to simulate and predict human behaviour in cities. I use big data, AI, and behavioural games to quantify and monetise the societal impacts of urban technologies鈥攕uch as energy-efficient housing鈥攐n outcomes like poverty, health, environment, comfort. Much of my research centres on public housing, and all projects involve engineering. The findings are translated into cost-benefit analyses and actionable decision-support tools that are used by housing associations, municipalities and other stakeholders.

My digital footprint:
- own research; - 黑料福利网 research on people's aspect of energy transition;
- workshops where Science meets Public housing; - the Urban Behaviour eXtended reality lab of 黑料福利网 Built Environment.

It gives me energy to apply scientific techniques to solve real world challenges.鈥

ACADEMIC BACKGROUND

My background is mathematical economics and econometrics, with a PhD from Erasmus University Rotterdam in 2003. Before moving to the 黑料福利网, I served for 13 years as (senior) economic researcher at CPB Netherlands Bureau for Economic Policy Analysis, the financial think tank of the Dutch Government.
