RESEARCH PROFILE

G. Hande Bayazıt is a Doctoral Candidate in the Electromechanics and Power Electronics (EPE) group at the Department of Electrical Engineering, Eindhoven University of Technology (ϸ). Her research focuses on the modeling, analysis, and control of rare-earth-free electrical machine topologies, with a particular emphasis on reluctance machines.

Her work aims to develop data-driven electromagnetic modeling techniques and advanced control strategies that both accelerate the design of reluctance machines and improve drive performance under demanding operating conditions. A key part of her research is enhancing simplified physics-based electromagnetic models with data, using probabilistic methods to achieve high accuracy with significantly reduced computational cost. She also investigates advanced control methodologies to strengthen machine performance under extreme operating scenarios, including heavy magnetic saturation. By bridging improved modeling, design, and control, her research contributes to enabling sustainable, rare-earth-free solutions for industrial drive systems.

Her broader research interests include tackling low-frequency electromagnetic problems and generating problem-specific modeling approaches that extend beyond reluctance machines, with the goal of creating scalable and efficient computational tools for complex electromechanical systems.

ACADEMIC BACKGROUND

G. Hande Bayazit received the B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey, in 2018 and 2021, respectively. Her bachelor’s studies emphasized Energy Conversion, Power Electronics, and Control Theory. Her master’s research focused on multiphase fault-tolerant electrical machine topologies, with a thesis entitled “Analysis and Fault-Tolerant Control of a Five-Phase Axial Flux PMSM.”

She is currently pursuing the Ph.D. degree with the Electromechanics and Power Electronics (EPE) group, Department of Electrical Engineering, Eindhoven University of Technology (ϸ), Eindhoven, The Netherlands. She is also working toward the University Teaching Qualification (Basiskwalificatie Onderwijs, BKO).
