RESEARCH PROFILE
Dr. Duru Bayram is an Associate Professor at the Eindhoven School of Education (ESoE), Eindhoven University of Technology (ºÚÁϸ£ÀûÍø). She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Physics Education from Middle East Technical University (METU), Turkey, and brings 10 years of experience teaching physics and science at secondary schools.
Dr. Bayram has led and contributed to multiple national and European Union educational research projects as a principal investigator and researcher, demonstrating a strong record of collaborative, impact-driven work. She has also served as Chair of the External Policy and Relations Committee at NARST and is an active member and strand chair at ESERA. She was recently awarded a project on gender inclusivity and intersectionality in STEM teacher education, in which she serves as coordinator of a large international consortium.
Her research focuses on advancing science education through the study of Socio-Scientific Issues (SSI), science education for citizenship, Education for Sustainable Development, the pedagogy of physics and inclusive education. She is particularly interested in the development of teachers’ Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK) in physics and science, as well as assessment of SSI-based learning experiences. Dr. Bayram’s work bridges research, teacher education, and societal engagement, aiming to empower educators and learners to think critically, act responsibly, and contribute meaningfully to society.
How science can serve society? How socio-scientific reasoning happens? How can we educate students to make informed decisions and act as responsible citizens? I am fascinated by searching for answers to these questions.
