RESEARCH PROFILE

Dongshuai Li is Assistant Professor in the Elementary Processes in Gas Discharges (EPG) group at Eindhoven University of Technology. Her work focuses on lightning physics and its effects on the near-Earth environment. Her expertise includes lightning physics and protection, atmospheric remote sensing science and technology, computational electromagnetics, and meteorology. She investigates the fundamental mechanisms of lightning, thunderstorm dynamics, and atmospheric electricity. Her work integrates atmospheric electricity, lightning physics, and thunderstorm meteorology, combining observations, remote sensing, and modeling. She is interested in developing advanced algorithms and technologies to improve lightning detection and characterization for both ground-based and space-based platforms.

Unraveling the mysteries of atmospheric and space electricity from nature, my work explores lightning, transient luminous events, and related phenomena, bridging the frontiers of plasma physics, atmospheric electricity and physics.

ACADEMIC BACKGROUND

Dongshuai Li obtained her PhD in Atmospheric Remote Sensing Science and Technology from NUIST (China). Her PhD and the fellowship at EPFL (Switzerland) focused on advancing electromagnetic measurements of lightning and developing models to improve lightning detection network accuracy.Her postdoctoral research at IAA-CSIC (Spain) and DTU Space (Denmark) focused on cloud-top blue corona discharges and their role in lightning initiation by using radio and optical observations from ground- and space-based instruments. In 2023, she became a Senior Researcher at DTU Space, where she leads the Neuro-Lightning Research Group. In 2025, she joined 黑料福利网 (Netherlands) as an Assistant Professor and became the Principal Investigator of the Lightning Observation and Physics Group.
