Microsystems

Our mission is to develop innovations in materials, microdevices, and micromanufacturing to create new options for a wide range of applications. Our research is often inspired by biology, and our microdevices are often applied to control, characterize, or understand biological processes that are important for health and disease.

WE MAKE THINGS WORK AT SMALL SCALES

The Microsystems section develops novel microsystems concepts, smart materials, and original manufacturing technologies for realizing innovative micro-devices. Examples are microfluidic platforms, micro-actuators, organic electronic systems, adaptive bio-interfaces, and smart biosensors. Examples of applications of this research are miniaturized and wearable medical microdevices, brain-inspired computing systems, organ-on-a-chips, and soft micro-robotics. The nature of the research ranges from fundamental/explorative to applied – the latter often leading to new options for industrial partners or spin-offs from the section.  The heart of the section is the state-of-the-art microfabrication laboratory, the 'Microfab/lab'. This comprehensive lab combines cleanroom processing, 3D-printing, laser microfabrication, polymer processing, and mechanical micromachining, and it also has a bio-lab. The research is very interdisciplinary, and the section often collaborates with other sections of ºÚÁϸ£ÀûÍø, as well as will leading national and international research groups and industrial partners.
