Innovation happens where research, care and industry meet! That was the spirit of ºÚÁϸ£ÀûÍø Innovation Expo – Curiosity Connects during Research Day 2026! The day kicked off with the Innovation Café, setting the tone: real innovation does not happen in isolation, it happens in open ecosystems. That energy carried through the Expo, live demos running, and great conversations about turning research into real-world impact.

As e/MTIC, we proudly showcased two projects born from exactly that kind of collaboration:

As part of a larger project on neonatal development,  (L) and  (R) examined how preterm infants mature during their first six weeks of life, using routinely collected physiological data such as heart rate, heart rate variability, respiratory rate, and oxygen saturation.

Their analysis compared infants with and without major morbidities during their neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) stay and extended to children whose developmental outcomes were known at age two.

The researchers found that early physiological differences are already visible in the NICU period. Both between infants with and without serious medical complications and between those who later show normal versus delayed development.

Monitoring vital signs using cameras. The Advance-ForSee research project, uses advanced camera technology combined with artificial intelligence (AI) to more accurately predict the recovery of heart patients. This follow-up project brings the development and implementation of this technology one step closer to hospital usage. 

The cameras continuously record vital signs, after which AI recognizes patterns and trends that can indicate a deterioration with a risk of complications, or a recovery without complications. By detecting a patient's deterioration earlier, treatment can be initiated sooner. This contributes to a faster recovery and allows a patient to return home safely sooner.

Two Technologies - Same principle: it’s the ecosystem of clinicians, researchers, and industry working together, that makes real innovation possible.
