New Postdoc Onno van der Heijden

In April 2025 Onno van der Heijden started as postdoc in the Electrocatalytic Synthesis and Electrochemical Interfaces group.
Onno obtained his PhD in the Catalysis and Surface Chemistry group at Leiden University under the supervision of prof. dr. Marc Koper. His work focused on measuring intrinsic kinetics of NiFeOOH electrocatalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Moreover, he studied the effects of the electrolyte on the electrocatalytic activity.
As part of the ZEBRA project, Onno will study catalytic coatings for alkaline water electrolysis. This project focuses on producing scalable catalytic coatings from abundant materials, which are stable under industrially relevant conditions.
