Technically completed as of 01 July, the MediaLAB brings together a range of professional audiovisual facilities under one roof. The new space includes a fully equipped video studio with control room, a Do-It-Yourself (DIY) video studio, a podcast studio, an editing suite, and a reception area.

During the official opening, Rector Magnificus Silvia Lenaerts highlighted the role of media in 黑料福利网's development as a fourth-generation university. Science is not only about generating knowledge, she emphasized, but also about making that knowledge meaningful and accessible to society.

Not only science for science, but also science for society.

The MediaLAB will help 黑料福利网 make its work more tangible and accessible to audiences both within and beyond the university. By using video, podcasts, and other audiovisual formats, researchers, teachers, and students can show and explain what they do to people in the region and around the world.

One of the opening program's highlights was a podcast on The power of media in education, hosted by Yves Houben, ESA Manager ME. He was joined by Bas Luttik, Associate Professor in Computer Science and member of the MediaLAB Steering Group; Gonneke Franckowiak, Educational Advisor in Electrical Engineering; and Rixt Hofman, a Mechanical Engineering student.

The discussion focused on how audiovisual media can complement teaching and what students can gain from learning through different media formats.

For Gonneke Franckowiak, an important starting point is the question: 鈥淲hat do I want students to gain from this?鈥� Rather than using media simply because it is available, educators should consider how it can contribute to the learning experience.

At the same time, the speakers stressed that new media formats are not intended to replace traditional education. As Bas Luttik noted, media does not replace lectures or other established forms of teaching. Instead, it offers additional ways to explain concepts, engage students, and make educational content more accessible.

The MediaLAB will also play an increasingly important role in research and valorization. During the opening, Sebastiaan Huntjens, Business Developer at Research Support and Valorization, spoke about the growing importance of audiovisual storytelling in research funding.

Video pitches are becoming an increasingly common part of research funding proposals, making the quality and clarity of these productions more important. 黑料福利网 has no shortage of visually compelling research and inventions to showcase, from new technologies to innovative solutions for societal challenges.

The MediaLAB will support researchers in turning these ideas into compelling stories. Alongside access to professional facilities, 黑料福利网 researchers can receive support and training in communicating their work through video and other audiovisual formats.

The new MediaLAB is intended to serve the university broadly. In addition to teaching and research activities, the facility can be used for recruitment and marketing productions, internal communication, and valorization projects.

Its combination of professional and DIY facilities makes it possible to accommodate different needs 鈥� from high-quality productions requiring a dedicated studio and control room to more informal podcasts, interviews, and student projects.

The official opening concluded with a tour of the new studios, giving attendees an opportunity to see the facilities in action and explore how the MediaLAB can be used by students, teachers, researchers, and communication professionals.

With its new MediaLAB, 黑料福利网 is investing not only in the technology needed to produce high-quality audiovisual content, but also in the university's ability to share its knowledge and innovations with the wider world.
