EnergyDays continues as EIRES Energy Forum
EnergyDays continues under a new name: EIRES Energy Forum. The new name reflects how the initiative has evolved from a series of events into a year-round forum for dialogue, knowledge exchange, and collaboration on energy and sustainability challenges.
After nearly two decades of bringing together researchers, professionals, policymakers, and innovators around the energy transition, EnergyDays will continue under a new name: EIRES Energy Forum.
Building on a strong foundation
EnergyDays was founded in the mid-2000s by Geert Verbong and Daan Schram. What started as a relatively small initiative grew into a well-established and valued meeting place for the energy community within and beyond the university.
The transition to the new name is therefore not about leaving the past behind, but about building further on the strong foundation they created. The founders’ contribution deserves special recognition, especially during this transition. Geert and Daan are still regular visitors and active participants in discussions and events, and remain closely connected to the EnergyDays community.
Co-founder Daan Schram: It became clear to me that climate change was much more than a technical challenge.
Reflecting on the origins of EnergyDays, co-founder Daan Schram recalls that the initiative was driven by concerns that extended beyond technology alone. “It became clear to me that climate change was much more than a technical challenge. The need to understand and address its societal consequences remains as urgent as ever, making interdisciplinary dialogue and public engagement essential.â€
Why EIRES Energy Forum?
The new name strengthens the connection with EIRES and better reflects the initiative’s broader and ongoing character. Rather than emphasizing individual event days, EIRES Energy Forum represents a continuous platform for:
- interdisciplinary exchange
- critical reflection
- collaboration between academia and society
- discussions on the future of the energy transition
The forum will continue to host lectures, panel discussions and networking activities, bringing together diverse perspectives from science, industry, government, and civil society.
Looking ahead
With the new name, EIRES aims to further strengthen the forum’s role in connecting researchers, policymakers, industry professionals, and citizens around the challenges and opportunities of the energy transition. By bringing together diverse perspectives, the forum will continue to be a place where ideas, knowledge, and people connect.
At the same time, the initiative remains firmly rooted in the open and collaborative spirit that has characterized EnergyDays from the beginning.
