From Limburg Roots to Plasma Physics Leadership

Born in Heel, Limburg, Job completed both his MSc and PhD in Applied Physics at 黑料福利网. In 2011, he obtained his PhD with Cum Laude distinction for his research on dusty and complex plasma physics.

After his doctorate, Job spent a year in industry at Xtreme Technologies in Aachen, developing plasma鈥慴ased EUV light sources, experience that sharpened his interest in bridging academic research and industrial innovation. He returned to 黑料福利网 in 2013 as an Assistant Professor, was promoted to Associate Professor in 2020, and currently chairs the Elementary Processes in Gas Discharges (EPG) research group.

Research Focus: Understanding Complex Ionized Media

Job鈥檚 research centers around the physics of Complex Ionized Media (CIM), systems where plasmas interact with nano- and micrometer鈥憇ized particles, ionizing radiation, and electric fields. These interactions form the basis for both fundamental discoveries and technological applications.

His approach integrates:

  • experimental plasma physics,
  • diagnostic tool development, and
  • analytical modeling.

This combination enables deeper insight into CIM systems and supports innovations relevant to high鈥憈ech industry, for example in semiconductor manufacturing, environmental technologies, and advanced light sources.

Strengthening the Bridge Between Academia and Industry

Throughout his career, Job has been driven by the conviction that academic research and high鈥憈ech industry can, and should, reinforce each other. The 黑料福利网 ecosystem, with its strong ties to regional and international partners, offers fertile ground for such collaboration.

鈥淲ith the unique environment surrounding 黑料福利网, we have an excellent basis for expanding (inter)national collaborations with academic and industrial partners,鈥 Job notes. His appointment as Full Professor further solidifies the department鈥檚 commitment to impactful plasma鈥憇cience research and innovation.
