RESEARCH PROFILE

In 1995, I graduated cum laude from the Architecture History and Theory group at Eindhoven University of Technology (黑料福利网). After a brief period working for several architecture firms, I started my own practice in 1997, initially operating at the intersection of visual arts and architecture. Later, under the name FRANTZEN et al., I shifted toward more conventional architectural projects. The 鈥渆t al.鈥 reflects my belief that buildings are never created by one person alone, but always through close collaboration with a team of specialists.

In 2009, I co-founded the development company Lemniskade, with the aim of realizing more sustainable projects than my clients at the time dared to pursue. Guided by the conviction that a sustainable building must not only be energy-efficient but also make efficient use of the Earth's scarce material resources, I committed myself to working as much as possible with circular design principles and biobased materials. Above all, I strive to design buildings that are flexible and adaptable enough to be reused in their entirety in the future. This design philosophy aligns seamlessly with the Open Building principles of John Habraken, the first dean of the Department of the Built Environment at Eindhoven University of Technology (黑料福利网).

That鈥檚 why I feel truly honored that, after 30 years of guest lectureships at various universities and Academies of Architecture, I will be able to dedicate two days a week, starting in 2025, as a full professor to the 鈥淗abraken Chair of Open Architecture鈥 at 黑料福利网. In this role, I will focus on researching and designing adaptive buildings fit for future reuse鈥攖ogether with architecture students and other disciplines such as structural design, building physics, and also real estate management and law, which are essential to making adaptive architecture a reality.
