RESEARCH PROFILE

Thijs van Druenen is a researcher and teacher in the Building Physics research group of the Unit Building Physics and Services (BPS) in the Department of the Built Environment at 黑料福利网. Thijs' areas of expertise covers experimental and numerical modeling of ventilation and bluf body air flows and his research topics include, amonst other areas, pedestrian-level wind comfort, urban wind flows and also sport aerodynamics.

ACADEMIC BACKGROUND

Thijs earned his master鈥檚 degree in Building Physics and Services from the Architecture, Building, and Planning program at 黑料福利网. His master鈥檚 project, Analysis of the Effect of Building Geometry Modifications on Pedestrian-Level Wind Speed, laid the foundation for his subsequent work in the Building Physics and Services unit at 黑料福利网. During this time, Thijs held various educational roles and contributed to consultancy projects on wind comfort, cycling and speed skating aerodynamics, air pollution, and ventilation. After the 黑料福利网 atmospheric boundary layer wind tunnel opened in 2017, Thijs devoted considerable time to managing, conducting and analyzing experiments.

Since 2023, Thijs has been a researcher and teacher in the Building Physics research group, where he continues to delve into urban and building physics as well as sports aerodynamics. In 2024, he obtained his PhD with the dissertation 鈥淥ptimizing Aerodynamic Performance in Cycling: Analyses of Drafting Strategies and Skinsuit Design through Computational Simulations and Wind Tunnel Experiments鈥.
