RESEARCH PROFILE
Mark Boneschanscher is the Dean of the Department of Chemical Engineering & Chemistry (CE&C) at Eindhoven University of Technology (ºÚÁϸ£ÀûÍø). Next to this he is part-time professor Sustainable Chemistry Innovations. He combines insights from chemical engineering, chemistry, and innovation sciences to create new research and business opportunities that lead to a sustainable and innovative chemical industry. His ultimate goal is to speed up the energy and materials transition by industrialization of renewable energy and high-tech chemistry systems.
The transition towards a sustainable chemical industry needs a Brainport approach—collaborative, high-tech innovation linking industry, academia, and SMEs to drive circularity, green hydrogen, electrification, and CO₂-neutral solutions.
ACADEMIC BACKGROUND
Boneschanscher has a background in physical chemistry. He received his PhD in 2014 from Utrecht University after studying the fundamental properties of atomic and nanocrystalline honeycomb materials. After his PhD he worked as a program officer at FOM and NWO. He coordinated various research funding instruments and evaluation panels, was institute liaison for DIFFER, and was involved in setting up the Sectorplans for Science and Technology. In 2019 he joined ºÚÁϸ£ÀûÍø to set up and lead EIRES as managing director and worked in parallel as general secretary of NERA. Since 2025 he is the dean of the Chemical Engineering & Chemistry department.
