Maarten Paulides is Full Professor of Biomedical Electromagnetics and Chair of the Electromagnetics for Care & Cure (EM4Care+Cure) laboratory at Eindhoven University of Technology (黑料福利网). He is also Scientific Director of the Center for Care and Cure Technology Eindhoven (C3Te), where he works at the interface of engineering, medicine and healthcare innovation. In addition, he serves as honorary Professor at the Department of Radiation Oncology of Erasmus MC Cancer Institute.

His research is driven by a central question: why do seemingly similar individuals respond differently to the same intervention? Addressing this challenge requires the integration of measurements, computational models and clinical interventions. By combining these elements, Paulides aims to better understand, predict and ultimately influence biological response in health and disease.

His work spans biomedical electromagnetics, medical imaging, computational medicine, hyperthermia and neuromodulation. A recurring theme throughout these domains is the use of healthcare applications not only to improve patient care, but also to generate new scientific insight. Increasingly, he views clinical implementation as a source of discovery, where every intervention becomes an opportunity to help a patient and to better understand biology.

Beyond research, Paulides actively builds ecosystems connecting academia, healthcare and industry, including EM4Care+Cure, C3Te and regional, national and European collaborations. These ecosystems support the translation of scientific advances into clinical practice while creating new opportunities for interdisciplinary research.

Every intervention is an opportunity to help a patient but also to better understand biology. Maarten Paulides obtained an MSc degree in Electrical Engineering from Eindhoven University of Technology (2002) and a cum laude PhD in Health and Medical Physics from Erasmus University Rotterdam (2007). Following his PhD, he pursued an academic career at Erasmus MC, where he held positions as Research Associate, Assistant Professor and Associate Professor within the Department of Radiation Oncology.

His early work focused on the development of hyperthermia technologies for cancer treatment, particularly for head and neck tumours. This research gradually expanded towards MRI-guided interventions, patient-specific treatment planning, computational modelling and treatment adaptation.

In 2018, Paulides returned to Eindhoven University of Technology as Associate Professor and became Scientific Director of the Center for Care and Cure Technology Eindhoven (C3Te). He was appointed Full Professor of Biomedical Electromagnetics in 2021 and currently leads the EM4Care+Cure laboratory.

Throughout his career, he has held visiting positions at Duke University Medical Center and GE Global Research, served on national and international scientific committees, contributed to the Dutch Health Council and ICNIRP/WHO-related activities, and supported the development of several research and innovation initiatives. His work has resulted in award-winning publications, patents, international research collaborations, clinical implementations and medical technology ventures, including Sensius BV of which he is cofounder.
