RESEARCH PROFILE
The building sector consumes vast amounts of natural resources and accounts for around 37% of global CO2 emissions according to the UN. Cement alone is estimated to be responsible for 8% of it. Therefore sustainable alternatives must be found and a promising solution is the use of secondary resources such as slags, clays as well as natural or industrial ashes. The research of Katrin Schollbach focuses on investigating these materials and finding safe applications as building materials.
