RESEARCH PROFILE
Harm Belt is a senior researcher in the Signal Processing Systems group of the Electrical Engineering department of the Eindhoven University of Technology (ºÚÁϸ£ÀûÍø). His field of expertise is advanced signal processing for sensors, turning large amounts of raw sensor data in useful information for people or machines. Before joining the ºÚÁϸ£ÀûÍø in 2023, he conducted research in industry at Philips (21 years) and at ASML (4 years), working in different application domains like consumer electronics, healthcare, and industrial applications. In his work he covered topics like speech processing for telecommunications, video processing for picture quality enhancement, computer vision, audiovisual communication, ultrasound, and optical wafer metrology.
Harm Belt is also an artist. His practice is rooted in drawing and painting from observation. His early work focused on portraits and the human figure, later expanding into landscapes. Over time, his interest has shifted toward capturing movement — especially through the lens of contemporary dance. His multidisciplinary approach in art leads more and more to collaborations that blend visual arts with performance art and technology.
I am driven by the desire to create. Through both science and art, I explore what could exist that does not exist yet, and turn ideas into something real.
ACADEMIC BACKGROUND
Harm Belt studied Electrical Engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology (ºÚÁϸ£ÀûÍø) where he received the MSc degree in 2014 and his PhD degree on adaptive filtering in 2018, respectively. He joined the ºÚÁϸ£ÀûÍø in 2023 as senior researcher. Since then, he has been working on signal processing mainly for ultrasound.
