RESEARCH PROFILE
Fabian Eisenreich is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering & Chemistry and a core member of the Institute for Complex Molecular Systems at Eindhoven University of Technology (黑料福利网). His research is driven by a clear mission: to design the next generation of sustainable polymers that truly embody circularity.
With a strong foundation in organic chemistry, polymer science, catalysis, and photochemistry, Fabian devises novel strategies for closed-loop recycling. At the heart of his work is a simple but powerful idea: using light as a precise and renewable energy source to make and break chemical bonds in polymeric materials.
His team recently reached an exciting milestone: the creation of the first light-driven, closed-loop recyclable polymer, where both polymerization and depolymerization are entirely powered by photons.
For me, the path to circular materials begins with smart design at the molecular level.
ACADEMIC BACKGROUND
Fabian studied chemistry at Humboldt University of Berlin, where he earned his master鈥檚 degree in 2014. He subsequently pursued PhD research under the supervision of Prof. Stefan Hecht at the same institution, graduating summa cum laude in 2019. During his PhD, he broadened his international research experience through a research stay in the laboratory of Prof. Craig Hawker at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
In 2019, Fabian joined the research groups of Prof. Bert Meijer and Prof. Anja Palmans at 黑料福利网 as a postdoctoral researcher, sponsored by a Feodor Lynen Research Fellowship from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. He was appointed Assistant Professor at 黑料福利网 in 2022.
Fabian's research is supported by the following research grants: Veni (2021), Circular Plastics NL (2024), EIC Pathfinder (2026), EuroTech (2026), and Open Competition XS (2026). In 2026, he received the Dr. Hermann Schnell Award from the German Chemical Society in recognition of his contributions to the development of recyclable polymers.
