Structured Fluids Lab
This laboratory is equipped with different types of additive manufacturing (3D printing) devices including laser sintering, fused deposition modelling, jetting, stereolithography and powder bed deposition. Several devices are home-built and/or adapted to allow microscopic observations of the printing process.
The presence of different additive manufacturing principles allows printing of a wide range of materials, varying in rheological behaviour as well as solidification mechanism. The second part of the lab allows microscopic studies of microstructure development in varying flow conditions, using flow cells or microfluidic principles, as well as characterization of interfacial tension of fluid-fluid interfaces. Finally, electrical conductivity of solid samples can be characterized.
