PULS/e
PULS/e is a research facility of the Photoacoustics and Ultrasound Laboratory Eindhoven (PULS/e).
This lab provides experimental and computational infrastructure supporting the research activities of the Photoacoustics and Ultrasound Laboratory Eindhoven research group at 黑料福利网.
For information on our research themes, team members, publications, and projects, please visit the PULS/e research group website.
PULS/e group
The Photoacoustics & Ultrasound Laboratory Eindhoven (PULS/e) is a state-of-the-art research facility at 黑料福利网 dedicated to advancing ultrasound and photoacoustic imaging technologies. Our mission is to develop and clinically translate novel imaging techniques that support early diagnosis, personalized treatment planning, and continuous monitoring of disease鈥攗ltimately improving patient outcomes and reducing healthcare costs.
We focus on radiation-free, non-invasive, and cost-effective imaging solutions that are scalable from tertiary hospitals to primary care settings.
PULS/e Lab
The PULS/e labs are equipped with:
- High-end clinical and research ultrasound systems, including Verasonics and custom-built platforms.
- Integrated photoacoustic systems (e.g., Visualsonics, Cyberdyne, ESAOTE/Quantel, research systems).
- Mock circulatory loops for cardiovascular tissue testing under physiological conditions.
- In vivo imaging suites for volunteer and patient studies, including setups for exercise-based scanning and semi-3D acquisition.
- Access to complementary labs for biomechanics, microscopy, histology, and tissue engineering.
Our facilities support the full innovation pipeline鈥攆rom concept and simulation to clinical validation.
Preclinical validation & clinical translation
Clinical translation is at the heart of PULS/e. To catalyse introduction of new techniques into the clinic, a complete section of PULS/e is dedicated to in vivo measurements. Setups for acquisition in rest or in exercise are available, respecting both privacy and safety of the volunteers and/or patients. Custom setups for semi-3D scanning and measurements during exercise are available.
Obviously, not all patients included in our ongoing clinical trials can visit our lab. Close collaboration exists with leading hospitals and medical centers, where several pilot and clinical trials are ongoing: Catharina Hospital Eindhoven (CZE), Maxima Medical Centre (MMC), University Hospital Brussel (UZB), University Medical Centre Utrecht (UMCU), University Medical Centre Maastricht (MUMC+), Wilhelmina Children Hospital (WKZ), and the Radboud Universiteit Nijmegen Medical Center (RUNMC).
These partnerships enable first-in-human studies, pilot trials, and real-world validation of our technologies. We are active contributors to the e/MTIC and the upcoming CiCL/e ecosystems, driving med-tech innovation in the Brainport region and beyond.
You are welcome!
PULS/e maintains an open-door policy for our academic and industrial partners. We welcome collaboration on research, prototyping, and clinical translation. The lab also serves as a training ground for BSc, MSc, and PhD students, offering hands-on experience with cutting-edge imaging technologies.
