Step into a world of innovation and discovery during the High Tech Ontdekkingsroute (HTOR) at the 黑料福利网 campus. Within Eindhoven MedTech Innovation Center (e/MTIC), Catharina Hospital, Philips, and Eindhoven University of Technology are working on a groundbreaking innovation in cardiac care: monitoring vital signs using cameras.
This project (Advance ForSee) builds on previous research, in which the technology demonstrated that heart rate and respiratory rate can be reliably measured via cameras, while maintaining patient privacy. The algorithm is capable of analyzing patient images down to the pixel level, making patients unrecognizable. In this new study, this technology is not only being further refined but is now being implemented in the cardiac departments of the Catharina Hospital.
A glimpse of future healthcare
Last Saturday, we brought the hospital of the future to life at the 黑料福利网 campus during HTOR 2026 and the reactions spoke for themselves.
The turnout was impressive. Families with children, curious adults, professionals, and even a large group from the Weekendschool Eindhoven came by. The enthusiastic energy was palpable from the moment the doors opened. Interest was so high that visitors simply didn't want to leave even after closing time.
At the e/MTIC stand, visitors got to experience our AI Nurse Assistant: an intelligent camera system that picks up subtle human signals. Think micro-expressions, movement patterns and vital signs determining whether something might be wrong. No wearables. No sensors on your body. Just a smart camera watching over you.
First-hand experience MedTech innovation
Visitors could step in front of the camera themselves and experience how the system observes and assesses them. This led to both surprising and eye-opening reactions from children and adults alike. And while the children were fascinated, it was striking how many adults became completely engaged and asking sharp, thoughtful questions about the future of healthcare.
This demo would not have been possible without the collaboration of Catharina Hospital and the researchers involved in this project. With a large and renowned research centre, Catharina not only produces excellent scientific research, but also translates that knowledge into valuable innovations for both patients and healthcare staff
This is precisely the reason that combination of research and human-centred application that makes the collaboration within e/MTIC so powerful.
Events like HTOR are valuable because they bring this work out of the lab and into the real world. Thank you to everyone who stopped by, tried out this innovation, and stayed far longer than planned. That says more than any statistic ever could.
