Winners 黑料福利网 Science Awards

/

As of 2022, 黑料福利网 honors its scientists with the 黑料福利网 Science Awards.  With these awards, we celebrate scientists in different categories:

  • Young researcher
  • Groundbreaking research
  • Leadership in excellence

In 2023, 2 Academic Awards were added:

  • Best EngD thesis
  • Best PhD thesis

The 黑料福利网 Science Awards are announced at the 黑料福利网 Research Day

Winners of 2026

Minha Lee

Young researcher

"I explore conversational AI as a design challenge, bridging ethical selfhood, care, and socio-technical futures when we interactionally shape moral emotions like self-compassion with technology."

Federico Corradi

Groundbreaking researcher

"Curiosity connects biology and engineering. I take inspiration from neural systems' extraordinary information processing abilities to design more robust, adaptable, and energy-efficient microchips."

Carlijn Bouten

Leadership in excellence

"Uniting 黑料福利网鈥檚 strengths in Biomaterials and Regenerative Medicine, I pioneer the regeneration of cardiovascular tissues using implantable, biodegradable scaffolds."

Elze Swinkels

Best EngD thesis

"I believe innovation works best when solutions are shaped with users, ideas are put into practice early, and we dare to step out of our comfort zone."

Derek van Tilborg

Best PhD thesis

"Before letting AI guide expensive experiments, we need to honestly assess where it breaks down. Knowing the limits of your model is just as valuable as its predictions."

Winners of 2025

Fons van der Sommen

Young researcher

"Developing AI for cancer screening and breaking the barriers to clinical practice."

Sandra Loerakker

Groundbreaking researcher

"Growing tissues to repair or replace diseased ones is highly complex. We develop computational models to understand failures and identify solutions to enable successful outcomes."

Heleen de Coninck

Leadership in excellence

"Normalising the idea in academia and policymaking that accelerating climate transitions in a fair and equitable way needs systemic change well beyond technological innovation."

Tom Bertens

Best EngD thesis

"Silicon is everywhere, yet we understand little of its mechanical behavior. Unraveling this behavior will help making steps in Integrated Circuits miniaturization."

Iris Huijben

Best PhD thesis

"Machine learning can not only be used to automate labor-intensive processes, but also to teach us about the world."

Juliette van Haren

Best PhD thesis Technological Design

"Through simulation, early stakeholder engagement ensures healthcare innovation builds futures grounded in patient needs."

Winners of 2024

Francesca Grisoni Biomedical Engineering

Young researcher

She has a mission to stretch the limits of AI in drug discovery and to create innovative technology that can augment human creativity in the discovery of next-generation therapeutics.

Tugce Martagan Industrial Engineering and Innovation Sciences

Groundbreaking researcher

She focuses on improving patient access to affordable medicines. Her research combines artificial intelligence, life sciences and operations research to improve pharmaceutical manufacturing and supply chains.

Marc Geers Mechanical Engineering

Leadership in excellence

His research has pushed the frontiers in multi-scale mechanics based on novel methods, with applications in e.g. the localization of deformation, fibrous networks, acoustic foams and metamaterials, and materials for nuclear fusion. He is one of the pioneers and an acknowledged expert in the field of damage mechanics.
