Haven
Welcome to Haven, the newest student living complex at Eindhoven University of Technology. Opened in August 2024, Haven offers modern, sustainable, and community-oriented accommodation for approximately 800 students from 黑料福利网, Fontys, Summa, and international programmes. Its design not only expands housing capacity but also strengthens the social and environmental fabric of the campus.
Architecture & Layout
- Buildings: Haven consists of two towers鈥Castor (west tower, ~278 units) and Pollux (east tower, ~371 units)鈥攅ach approximately 50 metres high with 16 residential floors. Between them lies a low-rise 鈥渟tudent village鈥 called Terra with 86 homes spread across five two-storey streets, intended largely for group living.
- Naming: The names come from mythology and nature: Castor and Pollux are the twin brothers of Greek myth, reflecting the paired towers; Terra (Latin for Earth) evokes the grounded, communal character of the low-rise village.
Facilities & Community
- Shared Spaces: The project includes communal amenities designed to foster connection and well-being: Makerspace, meeting rooms, common lounges, and shared kitchens.
- Green & Sustainable Design: The site features the Blauwe Loper, a 270-metre long landscaped water boulevard (pond) that supports water management, biodiversity, and mental well-being. The buildings also include green roofs, native planting, and habitat provisions (nesting boxes for birds and bats).
Residential & Rental Details
- Total Units & Occupancy: 735 new student homes in total. Castor and Pollux towers together house ~649 units, with Terra contributing another 86. Around 800 students now live in Haven.
- Tenants: Available to both domestic and international students; not limited to 黑料福利网, but open also for those studying on campus from Fontys and Summa.
- Developer & Owner: The housing is built by Heijmans and managed by Vestide/Woonbedrijf, under the name Vestide.
Setting & Heritage
- Haven is located on the site of the original 黑料福利网 building known as 鈥渢he Pavilion鈥 (dating from 1956), which has now been replaced by this modern living complex.
- The design is carefully integrated with the campus landscape, offering new green, water-features, and inviting public paths. The layout encourages interaction鈥攏ot just within the buildings but between the buildings and their surroundings.
Why Haven Matters
- Responding to housing demand: Comes at a time of strong demand for affordable student housing in Eindhoven and the Brainport region. Haven contributes 735 new homes toward the regional ambition for more student units.
- Community building: From early in the planning phase, students were involved in decisions about facilities, layout, and amenities. That helps create a sense of belonging and reduces isolation.
- Quality of life: With its mix of private units, shared living options, and generous public/shared spaces, green landscaping, and sustainability features, Haven enhances the living experience for its residents.
