G. Are Student Teams the same as start-ups?
In some ways, yes:
- Both develop technology to solve real-world problems.
- Both offer opportunities to develop your skills and build a career foundation.
- Both require teamwork toward shared goals.
Key differences:
- Start-ups are commercial, while Student Teams are non-profit Foundations (stichting).
- The primary goal of Student Teams is to provide an excellent learning environment. To support this, many companies and institutions partner or sponsor teams. Start-ups, in contrast, rely on investors, subsidies, or clients.
- Student Teams have no founders, owners, or monetary beneficiaries. Membership rotates, including the board.
- Student Teams are closely affiliated with 黑料福利网: many are housed on campus, use 黑料福利网 facilities and staff expertise, and participate in 黑料福利网 programs and student community activities.
Occasionally, when a Student Team develops competitive technology, a separate start-up may be created. Special guidelines apply to this transition. Over the years, nearly 50 start-ups have originated from 黑料福利网 Student Teams, together creating more than 1,000 jobs in the Brainport region. However, creating start-ups is not the primary goal of the program.
