Advice and Activities

One of the key themes addressed by the EYAE working groups is ‘managing workload’ – a topic closely linked to well-being and performance in academia. The high prevalence of burnout, sleep problems, and stress underscores the urgency to support a healthy work-life balance to foster resilience against stress and promoting sustainable employment. As also acknowledged in the collective labor agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO in Dutch), the workload at universities is very high. While workload per se is not a problem, it becomes a concern when it is perceived as excessively high. From a sustainable health perspective, it is crucial that work demands remain manageable and don’t become a hindrance instead of a positive challenge.

One of the primary activities of this working group has been developing and recording a podcast series, named Excellence in Context. Through candid conversations, we discuss how unique challenges, opportunities, and well-being shaped academic careers. We hope that these discussions will increase awareness, encourage reflections, and foster discussions on context-dependent opportunities and constraints to flourish in academia.
So, join us to rethink what ‘excellence’ means:

The working group on onboarding has written a short brochure to help academic staff on a development track find their way around. You can find the document below. For the most accurate document, look at (ºÚÁϸ£ÀûÍø employees only).
