‘Curiosity connects’ viert 70 jaar ºÚÁϸ£ÀûÍø

Curiosity connects — connected by curiosity, driven by the future

Seventy years ago, ºÚÁϸ£ÀûÍø was founded out of a conviction that was bigger than technology alone. Philips' strong industrial base and pioneering spirit proved to be a perfect foundation for it to grow into one of the most innovative hotspots in the world. Not by coincidence, but by curiosity and cooperation.

By researchers who push boundaries, companies that dare to invest, students who see the future with a fresh look, and support staff that create the conditions for progress as a silent force. ºÚÁϸ£ÀûÍø has been at the heart of that network for seventy years — as a catalyst, connector and driver of technological innovation. It is the place where young minds learn that every question opens a door, and every discovery makes a new connection — between people, disciplines, industries and ideas.

Curiosity is therefore our constant motivation. It is the force that transcends disciplines, that attracts talent, that deepens partnerships. It is the basis of our educational philosophy, our research agenda, and our social role.

Since 1956, ºÚÁϸ£ÀûÍø has developed into a breeding ground for pioneers. Engineers who don't just build solutions but see new possibilities. Scientists who push boundaries because they refuse to accept that something 'just is'. Students who step into the world with the confidence that they can make a difference. And professionals behind the scenes who keep this community running.

This year we celebrate seventy years of progress. But most of all, we celebrate the force that has connected us all this time: curiosity. It is the spark that brings collaboration to life, the engine behind innovation, the language that connects researchers, entrepreneurs, students and supporting colleagues.

In a world that is becoming increasingly complex and requires sustainable solutions and digital breakthroughs, we believe more than ever that curiosity is key. Because those who dare to ask questions and are willing to listen, find each other. And those who find each other change the world.

Program

A milestone year calls for celebration — and in this case, an entire celebration week!

From Saturday, October 10 through Sunday, October 18, we are excited to celebrate ºÚÁϸ£Àû꿉۪s 70th anniversary with a full week of activities, events, and festivities for students, staff, alumni, partners, and the wider community. From science talks and sports events to cultural programs and festive evenings, the anniversary week will highlight the innovative and vibrant spirit of ºÚÁϸ£ÀûÍø.

Festive Opening of the Lustrum Year – June 23

/

On Tuesday, June 23, we will kick off the lustrum year of the ºÚÁϸ£ÀûÍø, celebrating 70 years of impact.

In the morning, our professors, dressed in academic gowns, will cycle through Eindhoven to deliver inspiring mini-lectures at local schools, connecting knowledge with the next generation.

At 11:00 AM, we will gather at Stadhuisplein, where the professors will be formally welcomed by Mayor Jeroen Dijsselbloem. From there, an official academic cortège will proceed through the city, followed by our whole ºÚÁϸ£ÀûÍø community.

✨ One ºÚÁϸ£ÀûÍø, one cortège: for this special occasion, all ºÚÁϸ£ÀûÍø students and staff are invited to join the procession, a unique opportunity to take part in a longstanding academic tradition and celebrate together!

Just join at Stadhuisplein and walk with us as we celebrate 70 years of connection, curiosity, and impact.

Logo

To mark ºÚÁϸ£Àû꿉۪s 70th anniversary in 2026, we deliberately chose a visual identity that originates directly from our own community. For this reason, we organized an open logo competition, inviting students, staff, and other creatives to contribute to the design of this special jubilee.

The many submissions reflected a wide diversity of ideas, styles, and perspectives, highlighting what makes ºÚÁϸ£ÀûÍø unique. After a careful review process, one design was selected as the winner: a logo that powerfully represents the energy, history, and future of our community.

The winning design, created by Stan van Rijn, a master’s student in Built Environment, will serve as the visual face of the anniversary year. The logo will be used across all official jubilee communications, both online and offline, and will appear on anniversary merchandise such as hoodies, T‑shirts, and bags.

It symbolizes 70 years of ºÚÁϸ£ÀûÍø as well as the creativity and engagement of the people who make up our university.
