From More-Electric Aircraft to Advanced Multiphysics Systems

Prof.dr. Elena Lomonova was appointed full professor of Electromechanics, Power Electronics and Motion Systems at the Department of Electrical Engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology (ºÚÁϸ£ÀûÍø) on March 1, 2009. She will deliver her valedictory speech on Thursday, October 8, 2026.

About the lecture

Elena Lomonova (1959) received her MSc (1982), PhD (1993), and habilitation (1997), all cum laude, from Moscow University of Aeronautics (MAI) in Control & Electromechanical Systems. She began her career as a researcher at the Astrophysics company in Moscow, later becoming Assistant and Associate Professor at MAI. She moved to the Netherlands in 1998, first working at TU Delft and then at TU Eindhoven from 2000, where she has been full professor and chair of the Electromechanics & Power Electronics group since 2009. She served on the Scientific Board of TU Eindhoven’s High-Tech Systems Center and was vice-president of the European Association of Power Electronics (2018–2024). She has held distinguished and guest professorships worldwide. Her awards include the Nagamori Award and IEEE Magnetics Society Lifetime Contribution Award. In 2025, she received an honorary doctorate from the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca. She has supervised over 60 PhD students and led fundamental and industrial research on advanced multiphysics systems.
