Zwarte DoosAbout the event
Artificial lighting at night has given us visibility during the dark hours, enhancing traffic safety and providing pedestrians with the confidence to go out at night. Yet, its detrimental effects on animals, ecosystems and human health are becoming increasingly clear and can no longer be ignored. This has prompted calls to reduce light pollution and to reconsider the taken-for-granted way in which we illuminate our cities at night (e.g., from lighting as the default to dark where possible). As such, it seems inevitable that we reconcile with darkness.
In this free one-day symposium we bring together scientists and practitioners in the field of urban lighting, light pollution, darkness-sensitive design, and the positive contributions that not just lighting, but darkness can bring to people.
We look forward to meeting you on November 4th in Eindhoven for a day full of lectures, workshops, discussion, and networking opportunities, and to explore together how the future of urban lighting can look like.
Humans and Technology
Understanding the relation between humans and technology is key to responsible development and acceptance of future technologies in almost every application field, be it energy, mobility, health, work, living, learning or entertainment.
