We want you to feel comfortable and safe on our campus. However, it can happen that someone crosses your boundaries or does something inappropriate. Suffering unwanted behavior, a violation of (academic) integrity, or another unpleasant situation? Know that you are not alone. There are always people you can turn to.
What can you do yourself?
It happens that people cross your personal boundaries or that you notice that someone is acting unethically. Then try to discuss it with that person. If that doesn鈥檛 work or you don鈥檛 feel safe enough to have the conversation, it鈥檚 important that you talk to someone else. That鈥檚 the only way the behavior can change.
Who can you talk to?
- Your can help you if the conversation doesn鈥檛 work out or doesn鈥檛 yield the desired result.

- The ombuds for students provides independent advice, mediates between parties, and can initiate an independent investigation if necessary.
All of these people will listen to your story and help you figure out what to do next. This can be informal, such as a conversation, or more formal, such as filing a report or complaint.

Sometimes you see something happening that makes you think: this doesn鈥檛 feel right. You want to intervene, but you hesitate. You don鈥檛 know what to say or whether you鈥檙e the right person to step in. That moment of doubt is exactly why the Active Bystander Training is so valuable. This free training helps you take action in various ways when faced with undesirable behavior.
