Warm Technology for a Dignified Future
During DDW 2025, the Expertise Center for Dementia and Technology (ECDT) showcases how warm technology contributes to autonomy and well-being for people living with dementia, in collaboration with Anna Zorggroep
Dementia affects us all. In the Netherlands, over 290,000 people live with dementia, and that number is growing rapidly. The impact on their lives鈥攁nd on those of their loved ones and caregivers鈥攊s profound. Technology can help, but only if it truly meets people鈥檚 needs. That鈥檚 why the was founded: a collaboration between the 黑料福利网 departments of Industrial Design and Industrial Engineering & Innovation Sciences, working closely with care partners such as Anna Zorggroep.
At Dutch Design Week 2025, the ECDT demonstrates how they co-create Warm Technology: technological solutions developed not for, but with people living with dementia. Solutions that support autonomy, connection, and peace of mind鈥攆or residents, informal caregivers, and healthcare professionals alike.
No Gadgets
Think of an interactive wall that encourages movement and memory, or a smart lamp that subtly supports daily rhythms without being intrusive. These technologies are not gadgets, but tools that make everyday life more pleasant and dignified.
Solutions That Truly Work
Too often, technology is designed without involving the people who will use it. ECDT follows the principle: 鈥淣othing about us, without us.鈥� Together with older adults, people with dementia, care professionals, and informal caregivers, we design solutions that truly work.
Collaboration with Anna Zorggroep
The partnership with Anna Ouderenzorg is essential. As a care partner, Anna brings practical experience, deep involvement, and an open mindset toward innovation. Together, they aim to explore ways to make the work of care professionals lighter and more meaningful, and the lives of residents richer.
