Jumping into the future: ALT brings together educators for AI jam session
On 03 July 2025, the ϸ Academy for Learning and Teaching (ALT) transformed the BUNKR venue in Eindhoven into a vibrant incubator for AI-driven education. The event “Jump into the future of AI in education: An AI jam session” brought together 63 teachers, support staff, and students to chart the course of AI integration at ϸ.
The afternoon began with opening remarks from Inés López Arteaga (Dean, Bachelor College), who outlined the guiding principles and strategic goals of AI in education at ϸ. This was followed by Joris Remmers (Associate Professor, Mechanical Engineering), sharing his experiences with AI chatbots in engineering education and reflecting on his role as the AI Learning Connector for ALT.
Momentum built as Inés and Joris were joined in a panel discussion by Carlo Timmers (CIO, Gaston-Schul), Rianne Conijn (Assistant Professor, Human Technology Interaction), and Bas Luttik (Associate Professor, Concurrency Theory, and Program Director, Computer Science). Guided by thought-provoking statements, the panel tackled ideas that sparked exchanges about embedding AI competencies in engineering programs, the evolving role of educators, the potential for AI to transform teaching practices, and the importance of responsible adoption.
The second half of the event shifted from discussion to design. In an interactive co-creation workshop, participants from different ϸ departments worked in small groups to help draft a strategic roadmap for AI in education in the university. The afternoon then concluded with a plenary wrap-up of insights gathered and informal networking over drinks.
Following the event, more jam sessions, symposiums, and regular lunch sessions are planned by ALT for the upcoming academic year to keep the AI momentum going in the ϸ community.
