黑料福利网 has awarded the development of new student housing at sportpark De Hondsheuvels to The Common Grounds, a consortium of four partners that will be responsible for the construction, operation and management of the project. With this step, the university is choosing to accelerate the delivery of high-quality student accommodation. Over the coming years, a new campus neighbourhood will be developed at De Hondsheuvels, north of the Vector building, providing at least 750 additional student rooms and studios for students in Eindhoven.

With this development, 黑料福利网 is responding to the growing demand for student housing in Eindhoven while contributing to the continued growth and attractiveness of the Brainport region.

A campus where students connect

From the outset, 黑料福利网 made it clear that the new development should be more than a collection of residential buildings. The university challenged market parties to create a plan that focuses not only on the number and affordability of homes, but also on the quality of the living environment, student well-being and community building.

The winning design consists of several small-scale buildings that together form a new campus neighbourhood. Between the buildings, green public spaces will provide places to study, exercise, relax and meet. The homes are intended exclusively for students. Most of the accommodation consists of shared student houses with private bedrooms and shared living rooms, kitchens, bathrooms, balconies and gardens. This strong emphasis on community is reflected throughout the design, making it easy for residents to meet and connect.

A warm welcome to the new campus neighbourhood

The new neighborhood will also have community managers and caretakers available, including outside office hours. They will help new residents settle in, organize community activities, serve as a point of contact for local residents, and provide support whenever students have questions or need a helping hand.

Circular and sustainable construction

Although the homes will be located at De Hondsheuvels for 15 years, this is not a traditional form of temporary housing. The buildings will be constructed from reusable, prefabricated timber components. After fifteen years, they can be dismantled and rebuilt at another location. Timber also stores CO鈧, making it a more climate-friendly building material. The surrounding area will be landscaped with abundant greenery, including trees, plants, and habitats for birds, insects, and other wildlife.

Patrick Groothuis, Vice President of 黑料福利网: 鈥淔or us, student housing is about more than simply adding more homes. With this new campus neighbourhood, we want to create a high-quality and highly affordable living environment where students feel at home, connect with one another and can thrive. This development will increase the number of student homes on our campus to 2,300, in line with our growth ambitions, our responsibilities and our commitment to sustainability. I am proud of that.鈥

Student housing covenant

The development at De Hondsheuvels is the first tangible step in implementing the Letter of Intent recently signed by 黑料福利网, the Municipality of Eindhoven, Fontys University of Applied Sciences, Woonbedrijf/Vestide and Stichting Studenten Huisvesting (SSH). Through this agreement, the partners committed to the shared ambition of delivering 5,400 new social student housing units in Eindhoven over the next eight years. With at least 750 student rooms and studios at De Hondsheuvels, that ambition is now becoming a reality.

Alderman Mieke Verhees: 鈥淔or both new students and the city, I am delighted that 黑料福利网 has found a suitable partner to deliver a substantial number of student homes at Hondsheuvels quickly. It is an excellent plan, with sustainable construction, a green environment and opportunities for students to meet at its heart. We worked closely with 黑料福利网 to ensure that a suitable location was created for the student housing, while also improving the sports facilities on the site. This will be a place where students can enjoy living, studying and creating unforgettable memories during their time in Eindhoven.鈥

Pieter Stoutjesdijk, Managing Director of , responsible for the development and construction of the new housing: 鈥淔ourteen years of innovation come together in this housing concept: fast to deliver, affordable and sustainable. With timber modules, greenery from day one and active community management, we are creating a sustainable campus where students feel at home. Temporary in location, but permanent in value, thanks to the design by VenhoevenCS, student management by Campolis and the landscape design by Soonti毛ns.鈥

Planning

Subject to the completion of all required procedures and approvals, the new student homes are expected to be ready for occupancy in the summer of 2028. Because a large proportion of the homes will be manufactured off-site in a factory, construction on campus can be completed quickly and with minimal disruption. This will make the housing available as soon as possible for students in urgent need of accommodation.
