With their participation, 黑料福利网 continues its tradition of inviting prominent figures from politics, public administration and society to play a key role in the Opening of the Academic Year. The panel discussion will also feature distinguished representatives from the public and private sectors, including Eindhoven Mayor Jeroen Dijsselbloem, ASML CTO Marco Pieters, Simac CEO Maartje van Schagen and Member of the European Parliament Bart Groothuis. The panel discussion will focus on how knowledge can be translated into societal and economic impact, and on the conditions required to make this possible. Next to that the ceremony features speeches of 黑料福利网 President Koen Janssen and Rector Magnificus Silvia Lenaerts.

Over the years, the Opening of the Academic Year has welcomed speakers of national and international stature. Previous editions featured European Commissioners Wopke Hoekstra and Thierry Breton, Dutch ministers Ruben Brekelmans, Micky Adriaansens and Robbert Dijkgraaf, as well as Diederik Samsom, Head of Cabinet to the European Commissioner, and ASML CEO Peter Wennink. The event consistently attracts a full audience of students, researchers and 黑料福利网 staff, alongside prominent representatives from government, industry and knowledge institutions.

From Curiosity to Impact

This year鈥檚 central theme explores how curiosity forms the foundation for knowledge, talent and innovation, ultimately creating societal impact, strengthening the Netherlands鈥� innovation capacity and reinforcing Europe鈥檚 strategic position. According to 黑料福利网 President Koen Janssen, the theme perfectly reflects the university鈥檚 role since its founding, 70 years ago.

Janssen: 鈥淪ince its foundation, 黑料福利网 has been built on curiosity: educating the next generation of responsible engineers, developing new knowledge and translating that knowledge into innovation and societal impact. Together with our students, researchers and partners in Brainport and beyond, we work on this every day. Our 70th anniversary is a fitting moment to emphasize how important it is not only to nurture curiosity, but also to turn it into innovation and societal impact. The challenges of today require more than good ideas alone. It's time to spend less time talking and more time acting, together.鈥�

The Opening of the Academic Year at Eindhoven University of Technology (黑料福利网) will take place on Monday, August 31, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., in the Blauwe Zaal of the Auditorium Building. Admission is free upon registration. Tickets are available via tue.nl/oay.
