Antoni Forner-Cuenca receives prestigious awards for his work in energy technology

Antoni Forner-Cuenca, full professor and vice dean of the department of Chemical Engineering and Chemistry, recently received two prestigious awards in the United States and Spain. With these awards, he is recognized and rewarded for advancing the science and engineering of electrochemical energy technologies such as fuel cells, redox-flow batteries, and CO2 electrolyzers, through innovations in porous electrode design, interfacial engineering, and in situ diagnostics.

Forner – Cuenca was presented both the ‘Electrochemical Society Energy Technology Division Supramaniam Srinivasan Early-Career Investigator Award’, and the ‘Premio Jovenes Talentos’ from the Electrochemistry Group within the Royal Society of Chemistry in Spain.

The Energy Technology Division Supramaniam Srinivasan Early-Career Investigator Award was established in 2011 to recognize and reward an outstanding early-career researcher in the field of energy technology. Such early recognition of highly qualified scientists is intended to encourage especially promising researchers to remain active in the field (up to 10 years after the PhD). 

The Spanish RSEQ award is given to best researcher in any area of electrochemistry in a young career stage (up to 12 years after their PhDs) for excellent research accomplishments.

'A great honor'

Forner-Cuenca: “It is a great honor to be recognized by two of the leading international scientific communities in electrochemistry, both in the United States and in Spain. I see these awards not as a personal achievement, but as a reflection of the hard work, creativity, and dedication of everyone in our Electrochemical Materials and Systems group over the years. Scientific progress is truly a team effort, and I am fortunate to work with such talented colleagues and students. This recognition gives me even more motivation and energy to continue tackling some of the most challenging scientific and technological problems in energy and sustainability.â€

About Antoni Forner-Cuenca

Antoni Forner-Cuenca leads the Electrochemical Materials and Systems group in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Chemistry at Eindhoven University of Technology. His research focuses on advancing transformative energy technologies for real-world applications. By leveraging principles from (electro)chemical engineering, materials science, and physical chemistry, his team designs, synthesizes, characterizes, and models innovative materials and reactors. Key applications include large-scale energy storage with flow batteries, energy conversion via hydrogen fuel cells and electrolyzers, and decarbonization of the chemical industry through efficient molecular synthesis and separation processes.
