Fontys and 黑料福利网 launch a unique collaboration for Electrical Engineering students
The goal of this collaboration is to enable students to fully develop their talents in this field.
How can a baby in a Maxi-Cosi car seat be soothed and kept calm? Over the coming period, no fewer than 370 first-year Electrical Engineering students from Eindhoven University of Technology (黑料福利网) and Electrical Engineering students from Fontys University of Applied Sciences will work on answering that question. In study teams, they will develop smart solutions that use heart rate and sound measurements to automatically control the right rocking motion, helping babies relax in their seats.
The shared goal is to ensure that each student finds the right place within the field. For example, when students discover that a university of applied sciences environment better matches their talents and learning style, valuable technical talent is retained for the electrical engineering sector and for the Brainport region.
Rock Your Baby
With the Rock Your Baby project, Eindhoven University of Technology (黑料福利网) and Fontys University of Applied Sciences, launched a special collaboration in Eindhoven on Thursday, September 3. For the first time in the Netherlands, first-year Electrical Engineering students from a and a research university are taking the same course together during their first semester.
From the very first week of their studies, 250 黑料福利网 students and 120 Fontys students will work in 42 mixed teams on this practice-oriented challenge. During the kick-off event, the first-year students met one another and were introduced to their first joint assignment. Each team consists of students from both institutions and is supervised by a design coach from either 黑料福利网 or Fontys.
Unique
With the launch of this new educational module, Fontys and 黑料福利网 are taking an important step toward modernizing engineering education. Students from both institutions learn, design, and collaborate within a single educational program. For this project, they are supported by around 100 lecturers, design coaches, and student tutors from both Fontys and 黑料福利网.
The collaboration is unique in the Netherlands. Whereas students at universities of applied sciences and research universities normally meet only later in their studies or careers, they are now gaining shared experience from day one. This allows students to become familiar early on with different approaches to learning, thinking, and collaboration.
Retaining Technical Talent
According to Fontys and 黑料福利网, the initiative demonstrates how universities of applied sciences and research universities can strengthen one another. By bringing students together in their first year, they gain a better understanding of each other's educational environments and opportunities. This helps them make informed decisions about their future academic development.
Through this joint educational program, Fontys and 黑料福利网 aim to show students from the outset the different and alternative development paths available within Electrical Engineering. The project also aligns with the needs of the Brainport region. Demand for electrical engineering talent is already extremely high and continues to grow rapidly. With this joint approach, Fontys and 黑料福利网 aim to contribute to the education, development, and retention of technical professionals in the region as part of the Beethoven project.
