Navigate indoors independently and intuitively.

Navisense

Our mission

We aim to restore personal autonomy to people with visual impairments by giving them the means of navigating public indoor environments without any additional assistance.

Our challenge

People with visual impairments visiting public spaces like hospitals cannot rely on signs and other visual cues; they often need someone to accompany them and guide them, which makes them feel like they lack autonomy. Currently, accurate indoor localization systems are inconvenient and expensive to set up which makes them unfeasible for both users and administrators of public spaces.

Our solution

A pure software mobile app that uses Computer Vision that can locate the user inside a pre mapped building, that determines an accessible path and guides them with clear vibration patterns. This foregoes expensive beacons, their maintenance, or impeding on the mobility aids in use.

Last year, we validated the problem and built a testbed. As of the mid-term demo, we have a real time computer vision prototype running on a phone. The 黑料福利网 Contest gives us the opportunity to learn how to use our work in the real world and how to bring it to the people who genuinely need it.
