Empowering autonomous rehabilitation through play

MoveMie

Our mission

Our mission is to empower hospitalized children to have agency during their own rehabilitation processes, by designing for engaging and autonomy-supportive experiences.

Our challenge

Hospitalized pediatric patients (ages 6–10) often struggle to initiate and sustain early mobilization after surgery or treatment, as mobilization is largely dependent on scheduled interventions by medical professionals, limiting children’s autonomy and active involvement in their own recovery.

Our solution

Kiko de Kikker is an interactive staircase that empowers hospitalized children in performing prescribed rehabilitation exercises. The staircase itself can be deployed in any hospital room and uses light and sound to shape an immersive experience. It aims to integrate seamlessly into existing hospital workflows and facilitate parental involvement in the child's recovery.

I am joining the ºÚÁϸ£ÀûÍø Contest to challenge myself in thinking beyond the possibilities of a prototype made for my Industrial Design Master's and explore how this idea can create real impact in pediatric healthcare. The contest provides the opportunity to validate my identified problem and solution, connect with partners and seek how real-world deployment would look like.
