Our mission
Our mission is to help ER nurses reduce stress and prevent burnout by making mental wellbeing more visible and easier to act on. We want to use data and interactive design to support healthy break habits and create a stronger sense of collective care within the team.
Our challenge
ER nurses work long, irregular shifts with high responsibility and little control over their schedules. Our research showed that many feel exhausted, struggle with sleep, and don鈥檛 get enough quality breaks. While colleagues support each other, there is limited structure to monitor stress early or encourage recovery during shifts. Burnout is often noticed too late, when nurses are already overwhelmed.
Our solution
We designed an interactive, data-based concept that visualizes the team鈥檚 stress levels through a shared fireplace in the break room. Using data (like heart rate patterns), the system reflects collective energy levels. Nurses can pick up small 鈥渨ood logs鈥 with short break activities, complete them, and place them in the fireplace to help it burn brighter. This playful but meaningful interaction nudges nurses to take restorative breaks and supports burnout prevention in a way that fits into their daily work environment
We are joining the 黑料福利网 Contest 2026 to share our interactive, data-driven approach to burnout prevention and show how design and technology can improve nurses鈥 daily work experience. We also want to gain feedback from experts and partners to further develop our concept into a realistic, implementable solution.
